Walking Supernaturally with Jesus.

Updated: Mar 20

What we call "the gifts of the Spirit" is what the scripture calls the manifestations. A manifestation is simply a revealing or showing of a part. But Paul said the gifts will pass away when the perfect has come. The gifts are the partial.

What is the perfect? The "perfect" is a Greek word that is better translated "mature." Context supports this. Paul said when he was a child, he thought like a child. But when the maturity has come the childish things discontinued.

When maturity has come, it will look like love. Jesus is love. Jesus was not separated from the supernatural, but operated in something beyond the gifts. The supernatural Jesus operated in was as a Man of authority, not a man of gifting.

This Man of authority flowed in all seven flows of the spirit of God. The seven spirit of God are the nine "gifts" all grown up. They are no longer samples but fullness.

Isaiah 11:1-5 NKJV says, “1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. 3 His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; 4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked. 5 Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”

Jesus fulfilled this prophecy in His earthly ministry. Immediately after the seven spirits are listed, the prophecy dives into explaining what this would look like operating in the life of the Messiah.

“His delight is in the fear of the Lord”

To fear God is expressed in the action of obedience. If you don’t fear God, none of the operations of the seven spirits of God will work through you. It’s a yielding to God which is faith. Jesus had the fear of God when He said, “Not my will but Yours be done.” He lived as Hebrews says, “for the joy set before Him that He endured the cross.” As Solomon wrote, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” It is as Paul preached that the cross displayed the wisdom of God and the power of God. Jesus learned obedience by the things He suffered.

The fear of the Lord is not the devilish spirit of fear which is torment. This fear is pure. This fear is something Jesus delighted in and you can delight in too.

“He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears…”

Jesus judged things by faith. He didn’t walk by sight. He was not led by what He saw or heard. The only thing left to judge by was the spirit. He had understanding (discernment). He knew the source was either heaven or men. He knew that the carnal mind was devilish.

John 2:25 “He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.”

John 7:24 “Stop judging by outward appearances, and start judging justly."

Several cases is recorded that He knew the thoughts of those around him (Matthew 12:25, Mark 2:8, Luke 5:22, Luke 6:8, Luke 11:17).

Out of knowing the thoughts and intents of the heart He responded.

When He was asked while teaching,“By what authority are You doing these things? Who gave You this authority?” Jesus asked them if John’s baptism was from heaven or from men. They didn’t want to answer. The only correct answer was it was from heaven and those that questioned Him knew it. The answer was the same: Jesus spoke under the authority of heaven.

“But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth”

Jesus displayed the righteousness of God by healing the sick, casting out demons, and setting the captive free. He preached the gospel of the kingdom. The believers in Acts preached the gospel of the kingdom. The church is returning to the message of the gospel (of the kingdom).

Romans 1:16-17 specifically states what this gospel is:

  1. It is the power of God.

  2. Unto Salvation = Greek word SOZO (healing/deliverance/protection/prosperity)

  3. It is the righteousness of God revealed This righteousness that is of faith takes what is twisted and brings it back into divine order. God never intended people to be sick and oppressed of the devil.

Isaiah 61 proclaimed this same concept. Jesus quoted it in Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

“He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.”

His mouth refers to His Word, and the rod is a symbol of authority. Jesus uses the same visual of the rod to the church of Thyatira in the book of Revelation, though not pictured specifically as in the mouth.

Revelation 2:26-27 “To the one who is victorious and continues in My work until the end, I will give authority over the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter and shatter them like pottery—just as I have received authority from My Father.”

Jesus spoke words with authority. Here’s an example of a person that caught onto this concept quite well in Jesus’ earthly ministry:

Matthew 8:8-10 “The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes; and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those following Him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith””

“Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”

The previous sentence in the passage was speaking of warfare addressed through authority. You are not ready for war, if truth does does not hold you fast. You’ve got know the will of God, let nothing convince you otherwise. Distortion is the opposite of righteousness. Truth remains undistorted. What is translated from the Hebrew as “Faithfulness” in this passage is elsewhere translated “truth.” It is the amen of God.

Jesus, though sinless, came as a man, but was not walking in the fullness from day one. Jesus grew in walking in the seven spirits and the believer has the potential to grow in walking in this too.

One of the examples of that points out that growth of Jesus:

Luke 2:52 “...Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”

The operations of the 7 (fold) spirit of God intertwines, and it is common to see more than one function at a time. For this reason, it is difficult to neatly dissect it all.

How are the Seven Spirits Connected to the Nine Gifts?

The 7 spirits correlate with the 9 gifts of the spirit.

  1. Jehovah correlates to the gifts of healings. (Jesus even said his father was the one doing the healing: John 14:10, John 10:37-38 and Matthew 9:35). Healing includes casting out the mental sicknesses of demon infestation and raising the dead.

  2. Wisdom correlates to the word of wisdom.

  3. Understanding correlates to the discerning of spirits. The Hebrew word comes from a word that means to separate or distinguish - to discern, and this word means understanding. That is to say, discernment.

  4. Counsel correlates to prophecy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

  5. Might correlates to the working of miracles (dunamis).

  6. Knowledge correlates to the word of knowledge.

  7. The fear of the Lord correlates to faith. (If you truly fear the Lord, you will not doubt what he says.)

Though there is a correlation, the 9 gifts are not the same thing as the 7 spirits. In comparison of merely walking in the gifts, vs flowing in the seven spirit of God is like an individual drink of a faucet vs a torrential flow of a river always going. It’s like a nibbling of crumbs vs having slices from loaf of bread. One has to be individually sought after, while the other is a super-natural thing that you now live and move and breathe in. It flows out of who you are. One is a twinkling of light, while the other is the brilliance of the sun shining in all its glory. One you see in part. The other, you see fully. You know fully. Paul wrote about the gifts to the Corinthians and encouraged the pursuit of the gifts. Yet, he referred to them as yet children, even babies in Christ (1 Cor. 3:1, 4:14). Paul spoke of something greater than the gifts. He touched on it to the Corinthians, but more intricately explained in every single one of his epistles.

Here it is:

It’s to grow up into Christ in all ways. It’s being love incarnate, as He is love. It’s using authority. In essence, the seven spirits of God is another way of saying that same thing. It’s is what you’re going to look like all grown up into Christ. God is love, and you will display that love gloriously, which restores, heals, and saves. This is your calling. Do you choose to do what it talks to step into that?

  1. Read the word and do the word without a special leading.

  2. Speak the truth in love to others.

  3. Surround yourself with people that are further ahead spiritually than you.

  4. Disciple others. Teach them to do the word.

  5. Talk in absolutes. Eliminate words without power. Your tongue is a rudder.

  6. Make declarations using Jesus’ authority. Don’t do begging prayers.

  7. Learn what your inner witness is like and use it.

  8. Remove false teaching from yourself. It’s toxic to your spiritual health.

  9. Pray in the spirit as much as you can. You’re praying God’s will and building yourself up.

  10. Learn who you are in Christ. Inside Out has a class for this under “Identity One” and “Identity Two.”

God Gave Us Each Other to Help Us Grow

Eph. 4:11-16 “And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for works of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ Himself, who is the head. From Him the whole body is fitted and held together by every supporting ligament. And as each individual part does its work, the body grows and builds itself up in love.”

You see, when get together as the body of Christ in the way in which God intended us to function, we began to get challenged in new ways. When we surround ourselves with people that are strong where we are weak, they can strengthen us to walk like Christ in that area. Christ was every single one of the functions listed above. He was the perfect Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher. All of this training is to lead up to the point of the full measure of the stature of Christ. It’s to grow out of babyhood, and become fully convinced of truth, and not led astray. It is by speaking truth, that we grow in truth. This is done as a body that builds itself up by love.

Paul’s heart was to see the church grow up. The following section will be some of the prayers he wrote that you can pray over the body of Christ (which you are part of):

Eph. 1:17-19 “The Father of glory, may give to you the SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the HOPE OF HIS CALLING, what are the riches of the GLORY OF HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS, and what is the exceeding GREATNESS OF HIS POWER TOWARD US.”

Eph. 3:16-19 “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, TO BE STRENGTHENED WITH MIGHT THROUGH HIS SPIRIT IN THE INNER MAN, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, MAY BE ABLE TO COMPREHEND with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Phil. 1:9-11 “And this I pray, that YOUR LOVE MAY ABOUND still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may APPROVE THE THINGS THAT ARE EXCELLENT, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being FILLED WITH THE FRUITS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

Col. 1:9-12 “We…do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may have a WALK WORTHY OF THE LORD, fully pleasing Him, BEING FRUITFUL in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; STRENGTHENED WITH ALL MIGHT, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.” Written by Larissa Yahnke, Ordained with Holy Spirit Led Ministries

7 Absolutes

1. Be like Christ in all ways, like Jesus. “until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ.” (Berean Study Bible, Ephesians 4:13) “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ Himself, who is the head.” (Berean Study Bible, Ephesians 4:15)

2. If you teach a different gospel than Jesus taught, you should be accursed. “But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.” (New American Standard 1977, Galatians 1:8) “I am afraid, however, that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it way too easily.” (Berean Study Bible, 2 Corinthians 11:3-4)

3. My sheep will hear My voice and not the voice of another. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (New Heart English Bible, John 10:27) “I am convinced that the effect of his touch within you is permanent; this is the Christ-anointing that teaches you all things, so that you do not need any teacher whose doctrine does not resonate with truth. Deception cannot compete with spirit-resonance.” (Mirror Bible, I John 2:27)

4. Don't worry about what to say the Holy Spirit will fill your month when you get there. “So make up your mind not to worry beforehand how to defend yourselves. For I will give you speech and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” (Berean Study Bible, Luke 21:14-15)

5. If You don't teach healing you’re not preaching the gospel. “As you go, preach this message: ‘- The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” (Berean Study Bible, Matthew 10:7-8) “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. I don’t preach with eloquent words but a demonstration of the Holy Spirit and power ” (King James Version, Romans 1:16)

6. If God tells you to lie, cheat, or steal, then you know it's not the real God. “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.” (Berean Study Bible, John 8:44) “So I tell you this, and testify to it in the Lord: You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts. Having lost all sense of shame, they have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity, with a craving for more. But this is not the way you came to know Christ. Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in keeping with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be renewed in the spirit of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are members of one another. “Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun set upon your anger, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing good with his own hands, that he may have something to share with the one in need. Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up the one in need and bringing grace to those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice.” (Berean Study Bible, Ephesians 4:17-31) “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

7. It’s never a carnal answer “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him.” (Berean Study Bible, Acts 10:38) “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (King James Bible, Ephesians 6:12)
